Embarking on a winter guided trip in Iceland is an adventure like no other, and there’s no better way to explore the country’s diverse landscape than with a combination of winter activities. You’ll start by heading to Kerlingarfjöll, a mountain range in the center Highlands that offers stunning views of the surrounding wildest region of Iceland and the perfect opportunity to go snowshoeing or off-roading in a superjeep. Next, you’ll journey to the South Coast of Iceland to witness the awe-inspiring natural wonders of its waterfalls, the black sand beach and the iconic glacier lagoons. Finally, you’ll explore the magical ice caves, admiring the frozen formations that can only be found in this winter wonderland before heading back towards Reykjavík.     Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the Basecamp.
    We begin our journey in Reykjavík—Iceland’s capital and largest city. Your guides will meet you and the rest of the group at BSÍ, Reykjavík’s Central Bus Station with transportation to our first accommodation in the south coast of Iceland, about a 1hr - 1.5hr drive from Reykjavík. Here you’ll get to know your fellow travelers and enjoy our first dinner together while we have a detailed discussion of the plan ahead.  *First dinner & beverages are not included.

    Days 2 & 3: Kerlingarfjöll - the witch's mountain
    Embark on an unforgettable adventure through the stunning highlands of Iceland aboard a powerful superjeep, and discover the beauty of Kerlingarfjöll in the wintertime during 2 days. Your journey will begin with a ride near Gullfoss, where we will be greeted by our experienced driver who will take the whole group into the Icelandic wilderness. As we leave the crowded Golden Circle behind, we'll witness the beautiful landscapes of the Icelandic Highlands, surrounded by the snowy mountains and vast glaciers of the highlands. Our journey to Kerlingarfjöll will take us through rugged terrain and driving on snow-covered roads that can only be navigated by a specialized vehicle like the superjeep.  Once we reach Kerlingarfjöll, you'll be amazed by the beautiful alpine scenery of this region, all covered in white powder snow. For two days, we’ll have the opportunity to explore the area with snowshoes, enjoy the surrounding areas of our accommodation and relax in the natural hot springs that are heated by the geothermal activity of the area.

    Day 4: Going south
    After enjoying the wonders of Kerlingarfjöll, we'll begin our journey back to the South Coast aboard the superjeep. Once we exit the Highlands, we'll stop to load all our luggage into our vehicle, and then continue our adventure southward. Along the way, we'll make several stops to explore some of Iceland's hidden gems, including secret waterfalls and off-the-beaten-path locations that are sure to take your breath away. As we continue our journey, your knowledgeable guide will provide you with interesting insights about the history and culture of the region. Overall, this part of the trip is a perfect opportunity to experience some of Iceland's hidden treasures, away from the crowds and tourist hotspots. It's a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the country, and to appreciate the diversity of landscapes that make Iceland such a unique and special place to visit.

    Day 5: South Coast of Iceland
    Get ready for an epic adventure as we set off to explore the wild and rugged beauty of Iceland's South Coast. We'll begin our journey from Hvolsvöllur, heading eastward along the coastline towards the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.   As we leave the small town behind, the landscape will quickly change, with rugged mountains, sweeping glaciers, and pristine black sand beaches coming into view. We will visit some of Iceland's most iconic landmarks: the stunning waterfalls. As we travel further eastward, we'll pass by the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, with towering cliffs and unique rock formations that are sure to leave a lasting impression. We'll take a stroll along the beach, feeling the power of the crashing waves and soaking in the otherworldly atmosphere of this unique location. Finally, we'll arrive at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where we'll spend the night and rest up for the next leg of our adventure.

    Day 6: Ice caves & glacier lagoons
    Early in the morning we will set course towards the south-east coast & the Vatnajökull National Park. Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure as we explore the stunning ice caves of the Vatnajökull glacier on a full-day adventure. We will make our way towards the glacier-edge, where we'll strap on our crampons and helmets, and begin our hike into the glacier's icy depths. The landscape here is like nothing else on earth, with towering ice walls and sparkling blue formations that seem to glow in the dim light. As we make our way deeper into the glacier, we'll come across a series of incredible ice caves, each one more beautiful and unique than the last. The caves are like frozen cathedrals, with natural arches and pillars that have been sculpted by the glacier over centuries. Our expert guide will lead us through the caves, pointing out interesting features and providing fascinating insights into the geology and history of the glacier.    Later on the day, we will head back to Kirkjubæjarklaustur to our accommodation.

    Day 7: Journey going West
    Today we will make our way towards Hvolsvöllur, taking in some of Iceland's most stunning off-the-beaten-path locations along the way. Our 4WD is the perfect vehicle for navigating the challenging terrain, and we'll take full advantage of its capabilities as we venture off the main road and into the heart of the Icelandic wilderness. These hidden gems include canyons with steep walls that rise up to 100 meters, multiple cascades that plunge into a series of crystal-clear pools, towering rock formations that rise up from the surrounding plains & hidden treasures that are part of the local culture and are just waiting to be explored.

    Day 8: Return
    As our winter adventure trip comes to a close, we'll make our way back to Reykjavík, reflecting on the incredible experiences we've had over the past few days. The journey back will take us through some of Iceland's most beautiful landscapes, with snow-capped mountains and dramatic lava fields all passing by our windows. And as we return to Reykjavík, we'll feel a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment knowing that we've truly experienced the best that Iceland has to offer.   * The itinerary could be changed in case of adversarial weather conditions, in case of danger for the group or in case the guide considers it necessary due to unforeseen circumstances or for the interest of the group.
