Tailored for individuals who are in good physical condition and feel comfortable hiking on uneven terrain & unmarked trails while carrying a backpack with all the personal equipment (approximately 15 to 25kg) and overnighting in tents; as well as those who are at ease sailing and living aboard an expedition sailboat. Daily hikes cover approximately 15km / 9mi, demanding around 5-7 hours of hiking each day.

As your terrestrial adventure concludes, an eight-day sailing odyssey awaits. Aboard an expedition sailing boat, we’ll navigate uncharted fjords along the Chilean coastline towards Puerto Natales. Each day, the challenge will intensify amidst the rugged fjords, unveiling unmarked trails and challenging terrain beneath the Cordillera Darwin, awaiting exploration. The unforgiving Patagonian landscape tests your mettle, promising an arduous yet rewarding adventure.

Start your trip hiking the Dientes de Navarino trail. Over four exhilarating days of hiking spanning approximately 50 kilometers, this trail unfolds a tapestry of rugged landscapes and untamed beauty, promising an unforgettable adventure in the heart of nature’s raw magnificence.

As you traverse the trail, you’ll immerse yourself in a world where jagged peaks and pristine valleys tell the tales of millennia.

Camp surrounded by the quietude of the southern wilderness. For three nights, your home will be a tent pitched on the fringes of this untamed terrain, allowing you to connect with the very essence of Patagonian solitude.

With only the wind as your companion and the ever-changing Patagonian weather as your challenge, this trail offers a rare opportunity to test your limits while basking in the pristine beauty of the southernmost wilderness.

SAIL & hike THE
AUSTRAL FJORDS

After completing the Dientes de Navarino trail, set sail on a journey from Puerto Williams to Puerto Natales. Our sturdy sailboat, designed for these rough seas, will serve as both transport and a floating base camp for the following 8 days.


As we traverse the waters of the Chilean channels, you’ll witness glaciers carving through valleys, their rugged beauty accentuated by imposing crevasses. Every morning will start with a daring dinghy ride to access unmarked trails along the wild

coastline, revealing exposed terrains and glacial-fed rivers with crystalline clarity, showcasing every detail in the riverbed matrix.


After these rugged hikes, return to our floating base camp—an oasis amidst the tempestuous waters. Here, stories, adventure memories, and local legends intertwine, forging new friendships amid the untamed beauty of the Cordillera Darwin & the Patagonian southern fjords.

Step aboard the Tecla, a majestic lady aged over 100, adorned with two masts, 6 sails, and robust spars requiring a skillful ascent. The experienced crew, honing the vessel’s rigging for years, ensures a beautiful challenge. Her classic wooden masts evoke nostalgia, while modern Dacron sails withstand elements for optimal speed. Dynema lines, strong as steel, enhance the sailing experience.

Relax in the saloon after adventurous days, sharing stories over a dinner crafted from local ingredients. There are 6 cabins, each for 2 people.


On the Tecla, you become part of the adventure, engaging in sail setting, steering, and immersing yourself in the elements for an unparalleled experience.

Itinerary

1
Day 1: Welcome to Navarino Island

Welcome to the capital of the Chilean Antarctic Province, Puerto Williams. Your guides will meet you at the airport from where you will be transferred to your accommodation for the night. Upon arrival, you’ll head straight to the briefing meeting about the trip.
After that, dine with your colleagues, guides & get ready for the new adventure that is about to start.

Days 2 to 5: Hiking the Dientes de Navarino trail

This self-sufficient four-day, 50km (31mi) odyssey demands adventurers to carry their own luggage on backpacks, including food and tents. Weaving through untamed landscapes, hikers connect intimately with the wilderness of Patagonia, exposing them to the rugged beauty of the southernmost trail on Earth. You will trek unmarked trails, camp beneath the Southern Hemisphere’s Austral sky, traversing ancient forests & crossing mountain passes.

The final evening on this trail will be spent aboard the Tecla sailboat once arriving back in Puerto Williams, providing an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the crew and the boat before setting sail the next morning.

Days 6 to 13: Exploring the Chilean channels

Over the next 8 days, join the second leg of the trip, a sailing and hiking expedition from Puerto Williams to Puerto Natales, throughout the untamed southern fjords of Chile, once inhabited by the resilient Yaghan & Kawésqar people. Our exploration unfolds amidst the majestic Cordillera Darwin, weaving through ice fields and uncharted islands that create a mesmerizing matrix of fjords.

With no fixed route, our journey hinges on the whims of weather & swell. Each night, we gather in the saloon, charting our course for the next day’s adventure. Hiking becomes an immersive experience, maximizing our time onshore amid the rugged landscapes. We will explore secluded anchorages, ice fields & impressive peaks that turn this land into an -almost- impenetrable fortress.

Day 14: Return home

Wake up to the tranquility of Puerto Natales for the last time. That same day, bid farewell to the Patagonian wonders as you fly back home, carrying with you the memories of an unforgettable journey through the stunning landscapes of the Chilean fjords.
