Isolated Iceland

Isolated Iceland is a trip through the most uncharted places in the heart of the Arctic island. Hiking across kilometric lakes, black deserts, red mountains & natural hot pots. We will move in our Land Rover Defender to be able to reach every isolated place in the ice & fire island.

We will forget about the most touristic places here in Iceland, to hike across the most incredible & wild areas. We will arrive to forgotten lands even for the locals, surrounded by no villages in hundreds of miles and where we could meet face to face with the nature power.

Day 1: Arrival to Iceland

Arrival and reception by the guide at the airport, transfer to accommodation in Reykjavík. Personal material review and free afternoons in the Icelandic capital. First night in hotel in Reykjavík. (Dinner not included)

Day 2: Transfer to Landmannalaugar & hiking

In the morning we will depart from Reykjavík on our vehicle to the Landmannalaugar geotermal area, in the heart of the Icelandic Highlands. On our way we will discover some hidden places like craters full of turquoise water, green volcanoes and canyons full of waterfalls.

Once in Landmannalaugar and after preparing the campsite, we will do our first hike of the trip, the Bl√°hn√ļkur mountain, also known as the "Blue Peak Mountain". Night at the campsite.

Day 3: Hiking across Langisjór lake

Our guide will drive us along the highland F-roads to the Langisjór area, where we can find the longest lake in Iceland and the amazing Mt Sveinstindur.

After setting up the campsite we will prepare ourselves for the great hike we have ahead. We will ascent the Sveinstindur for getting some outstanding views of the lake and the mountains around it, and with the different glaciers on the distant horizon.

Night at the campsite.
Day 4: Hiking in Lakagígar (Laki's Craters)

After a long night we will wake up in the morning for driving until the south coast of Iceland. After a quick stop in Kirkjubaejarklaustur for buying some supplies in case it would be necessary, we will drove back to the Highlands through the road F206 to the Lakagígar, the Laki's Craters (the volcanic fissures found in the area).

The Lakagígar system erupted between 1783 and 1784, pouring out basalt lava and poisonous hydrofluoric acid that killed over 50% of Iceland's living beings. Night at the campsite.

Day 5: North of the Myrdalsjökull glacier

We will wake up in the middle of the volcanic petrified lava fields, and after having a powerful breakfast for facing the day with enough strength, we will drive through the northern Myrdalsjökull area.

We will drive & hike across black deserts & green volcanoes like the Maelifell, until we arrive to the √Ālftavatn area, the enormous lake & one of the huts in the Laugavegur trail.¬† Night at the campsite.

Day 6: Hiking across the Black Desert (from √Ālftavatn to Emstrur)
Today we will face the hardest hiking day of the entire trip, with about 15km walking across the famous Black Desert and crossing rivers by foot. Surrounded by the pink flowers in the desert and with the big Myrdalsjökull glacier at one side, with the different white tones in its glacier tongues, we will arrive to the Emstrur canyon. We will descent to the Emstrur hut, before the Emstrur canyon.
Day 7: North of Eyjafjallajökull volcano

Our last day of hiking. We will wake up in Emstrur and after picking up the campsite, we will hike around this area where we could visit different areas of the Emstrur canyon always surrounded by the enormous Myrdalsjökull glacier tongues on the distance.

After an energetic morning hiking and a great lunch, we will depart on our vehicle to the north area of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the one that erupted on 2010. We will drive through this area until we arrive to the small town of Hvolsvöllur, where we will spend the night in a great accommodation. Night at the hotel. (Last dinner & beverages in accomodation not included.)

Day 8: Transfer to Keflavík international airport
Today we say goodbye to Iceland, but with the happy feeling of having soaked up with their outstanding landscapes, which will be forever engraved in our memory. The itinerary could be changed in case of adversal meteo conditions.
