Legend has it that within these rugged mountains, a towering pillar of volcanic rock reaches towards the sky, standing at an impressive 25 meters in height. This colossal monument is said to be the petrified form of a giantess who once roamed these very slopes. As the first rays of the rising sun bathed her in golden light, she was forever transformed into stone, eternally bound to the landscape she once roamed.

For 3 days we will explore these storied mountains covered on white-powder snow with superjeep & snowshoes, allowing us to be transported to a realm where myth and reality intertwine. Traverse the same paths as those who came before, feeling the weight of history and folklore in every step. Sense the presence of the giantess as you explore the untamed valleys and witness the geological remnants that bear witness to her fabled existence.

Itinerary

Day 1: Your adventure begins

We begin our journey in Reykjavík—Iceland’s capital and largest city. Your guides will meet you and the rest of the group at BSÍ, Reykjavík’s Central Bus Station with transportation to Gullfoss, where we will transition to a modified 4WD vehicle specifically designed for navigating the Icelandic Highlands during winter. Our adventure will kick off as we navigate through the rugged terrain, making our way towards Highland Base, where we will be staying for the next two nights, where we will have the opportunity to relish the enchanting surroundings and indulge in a dip in the geothermal lagoon.

Day 2: Full day exploration in Kerlingarfjöll

Following your breakfast, you will convene with your guide who will provide a comprehensive introduction to snowshoe usage. After a thorough explanation and safety demonstration, prepare yourself for an exhilarating day as you embark on a captivating journey towards the geothermal region of Hveradalir. Experience the thrill of exploring a winter paradise, where the clash of elements creates a breathtaking spectacle. It’s time to leave your footprints in the snow and create memories that will forever be etched in your heart.

Day 3: Return to Reykjavík

Once we have finished breakfast, we will rendezvous with our driver at the Highland Base hotel and commence our return journey towards civilization in the comfort of our superjeep. As we traverse the winter landscape, the majestic Kerlingarfjöll mountain range will gradually fade into the distant horizon.

Drop-off in Reykjavík.

Amarok Adventures ehf will provide the traveler with instructions on how to proceed with the trip booking process. To confirm a booking, the following requirements must be met:

• The traveler must fill out the online form with their personal information.
• The traveler must sign the travel agreement, which will be provided by Amarok Adventures ehf .*
• The traveler must make a payment of, at least, 30% of the total trip cost through our website booking system or through a partner’s booking system. The remaining 70% balance of the total cost must be paid no later than 2 months prior to the trip start date.

*If the client declines to sign the travel agreement, we interpret this as the traveler not accepting the general and specific terms and conditions of the trip. As a result, Amarok Adventures ehf will be entitled to cancel the reservation at the client’s own risk and expense.**

** Bookings made within 2 months prior to the start date of the trip will require a 100% payment at the time of the booking.

CANCELLATION & CHANGE FEES.
Amarok Adventures ehf reserves the right to keep the below fee to cover costs in all of our tours. If clients formally cancel their participation:

• If canceled within 48 hours of booking: 100% of the total tour price is refundable (including the deposit).
• If cancelled before confirmation of the group: 100% of the total tour price is refundable (including the deposit).

• If cancelled 59 days or more prior to the departure date: 50% of the total tour price is refundable.
• If cancelled 30-58 days prior to the departure date: 25% of the total tour price is refundable.
• If cancelled 0-29 days prior to the departure date: 0% of the total tour price is refundable.

This multi-day tour can be changed free of charge up to 6 weeks before departure date if there is availability on a different date.

Which kind of gear do I need for this adventure?

Please be aware that the adventure daytour you are about to embark on requires hiking on uneven mountain terrain & winter conditions. Therefore you should bring along with you proper hiking footwear, warm & waterproof clothing & energy for enjoying the entire day!

Also do not forget to bring a swimsuit, sandals & comfortable clothing for your time in the hotel and in the Highland Base Baths.

What level of physical fitness is required for this adventure?

To fully enjoy this adventure in Iceland, the traveler should possess a certain level of fitness. This trip involves hiking distances between 5 to 12 kilometers, as well as tackling elevation gains of over 700 meters (2300 feet). It is essential to have the endurance to endure these physical challenges as well as a significant amount of self-determination.

It is essential to maintain a positive mindset, stay motivated, and embrace the spirit of adventure when coming to the Icelandic Highlands.

Additionally, as the weather in Iceland can be unpredictable, it is highly recommended to bring good warm & waterproof mountain gear to stay dry and comfortable.

How long in advance do I need to book?

To ensure an exceptional and seamless experience, we invite you to book this adventure tour with a maximum of 72 hours’ anticipation. By planning ahead, you’ll secure your spot on the excursion of your choice, allowing us to prepare everything needed for your unforgettable adventure & to request availability to the Highland Base hotel.

In the unlikely situation that we cannot offer you a spot on our confirmed groups, we commit to offer you a wide range of alternative options either on other days.

How are lunches and dinners handled during the trip?

What happens if the tour gets canceled due to weather conditions?

Our first priority in any cancellation scenario is to try to reschedule your tour or provide a suitable alternative option. In the event that Amarok Adventures ehf is unable to do so, or in the event that the client cannot reschedule the tour that has been canceled, the client will receive a full refund.

To ensure that we can promptly communicate and potentially reschedule your tour, or in the worst case scenario cancel, please provide Amarok Adventures ehf with your up-to-date phone and/or email contact information.
