SEASON

Austral summer

Venture into the southernmost trekking circuit on Earth, the legendary Dientes de Navarino. This rugged route weaves through the heart of Isla Navarino, a land of jagged peaks, wind-sculpted ridges, and glacial lakes that reflect the endless skies of Tierra del Fuego.

For four days, you will carry everything on your back, crossing remote valleys and alpine passes where the Dientes or “Fangs” rise sharply against the horizon. The trail demands endurance and self-reliance as you move through wild terrain, face unpredictable weather, and embrace the solitude that defines this far corner of the planet.
Evenings are spent in wild camps surrounded by silence and the occasional gust sweeping through the beech forests. By the time you complete the circuit, you will understand why this mythical route has become a rite of passage for true wilderness backpackers, a raw and humbling adventure at the very edge of the world.

Hiking Patagonia - group of hikers on the Dientes de Navarino trail

THE SOUTHERNmOST TREK ON EARTH

The journey begins in Punta Arenas (Chile) with a domestic flight to Puerto Williams, the southernmost town in the world, where adventure sets in motion across the untamed landscapes of Isla Navarino. From here, the jagged silhouettes of the Dientes, or “the Fangs,” dominate the skyline, marking the start of one of the most remote and demanding trekking circuits on the planet.

Over four days, you will carry everything you need on your back, traversing roughly 50 km (31 mi) of rugged alpine terrain.

The route winds through glacial valleys, windswept ridges, and high mountain passes where weather changes without warning.

Each night is spent in wild camps beside mirror-like tarns and rocky spires, far from any sign of civilization. This is a place where silence reigns and the austral wind tells the story of true wilderness. Completing the circuit is more than reaching a destination, it is earning a deeper connection with one of the last raw frontiers on Earth.

Hiker making their way along a remote trail in Patagonia, dwarfed by jagged mountain peaks and endless wilderness.

Few venture into the depths of the Dientes de Navarino trail, where only the boldest hikers dare to tread, seeking unparalleled wilderness experiences.

PURE SELF SUFFICIENCY

Over the following days you will move between high passes and sheltered basins, crossing Paso Virginia and Paso Ventarrón, dropping into hidden basins such as Laguna Escondida, and skirting tarns that reflect the serrated summits. Expect long sections of peat bog, beaver-altered shorelines and patchy trail markers that force you to navigate with map and instinct.

The route threads under pinnacles named for their toothlike shapes and climbs toward viewpoints where, on clear days, you can pick out the Beagle Channel and distant islands. This is not a marked holiday trail. You will carry everything you need and move at the pace the land allows. Weather can close the passes for hours or days, so the trek is about endurance, careful route finding and respect for one of the last true wild circuits in Patagonia.

Hiking these trails is challenging and may require days of staying in standby in case weather conditions are not favorable.

Hiking Patagonia - The sailboat securely anchored in the remote fjords of Patagonia, reflecting on the calm, glacial waters.

This was my third experience with Amarok. Amarok attracts like-minded explorers—people who embrace uncertainty, adapt to nature’s whims, and find joy even knee-deep in mud. Their carefully chosen partners, like the lodge we stayed (Errante Ecolodge) reflect their high standards. Meals and accommodations were top-notch, fueling both body and soul after days (and nights) of adventure. Amarok delivers pure adventure in a safe, supportive, and high-standard environment.

Just finished a true Expedition in Navarino and Patagonia with the Amarok team. Monica and Albert were transparent from the start. Sharing the challenges that may come and in-depth knowledge of the areas we were going to visit. The first 4 days was hiking over land that had been explored before by few. Amarok knew the stories and tales of Patagonia and its people. It was worth every penny!

LOVED this trip!! The expedition to Patagonia was exactly as I had hoped. True to the description of the word ‘expedition’, we experienced it all.

Hiking Patagonia - A dense Patagonia forest of wind-sculpted trees clings to the rocky slopes.
Hiking Patagonia - Lush, untouched Patagonian forest stretching to the water’s edge, with a massive glacier cascading down the mountains in the background.
Hiking Patagonia - Expedition sailboat in the foreground, with rugged forests and towering mountains framing a massive glacier cascading into the fjord.

Navigate through an intricate matrix of fjords that only a few have dared to explore—no marked or easy trails, just raw, untamed wilderness.

NIGHTS SPENT AT THE END OF THE MAP

On Navarino the days end in wild camps beneath serrated peaks and wind-swept skies. After long ridge walks and river crossings you will pitch tents on moraine benches, beside peat bogs or on the gravel shoulders of mountain tarns. Cooking is communal and ritual. Pots and stoves come out as soon as shelter is secure.

Someone pumps a stove, and the group settles into a small choreography of rehydrating food, checking maps and drying damp socks by the tent vestibule.

Conversations here are honest and weather-ruled; they range from quiet plans for the morning to the small stories that stitch a team together. Campcraft on Navarino is skill and patience in equal measure.

Expect to stake out for wind, to tie extra guys on your ridge lines and to bury vestibule edges in peat to stop gusts from working their way under the fly. Water is earned, not given; melting snow or filtering tannin-dark streams becomes part of the daily routine.

You will overnight at Errante Ecolodge before and after the trek, a low-impact lodge set on a wooded slope just outside Puerto Williams with panoramic views over the Beagle Channel.
Errante is a welcome rugged comfort: hot showers, communal meals, and a beautiful scenery. At the end of the trek we celebrate with an asado dinner.

Itinerary

1
Days 1 & 2: Arrival to Isla Navarino

The adventure begins on Day 1 with a flight from Punta Arenas across the Beagle Channel to Puerto Williams, the southernmost town on Earth. Once you land, our team meets you at the small airstrip and transfers you to Errante Ecolodge, a cozy base surrounded by lenga forest and views over the channel. The rest of the day is for settling in, relaxing after the flight, and meeting the team. In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner, the first meal shared together before the expedition begins.

On Day 2, after breakfast at the lodge, we spend the day preparing for the trek ahead. This is when gear is checked, food is packed, and final adjustments are made to equipment and route plans. The guides will brief you on the coming days: terrain, weather, and safety protocols, while the group organizes rations and camp setups. The evening remains at Errante Ecolodge, the last night of comfort before stepping into the wild.

Optional activities available, depending on time and weather conditions.

Hikers ascending a steep hillside on Day 2 of the Dientes de Navarino trek, surrounded by rocky alpine terrain in remote Patagonia.
Day 3 to 5: Backpacking Dientes de Navarino

The trek begins with a steep ascent from Puerto Williams to Cerro Bandera, where the Beagle Channel stretches behind and the jagged silhouette of the Dientes rises ahead. From that point on, the trail dives deep into the island’s untamed heart: a landscape of turquoise lakes, wind-carved ridges, and valleys where silence reigns.

For three days, we navigate wild terrain around Laguna del Salto, Laguna Escondida, and Laguna Martillo, setting camp in remote alpine basins under skies that never seem to end. Every climb and descent tests your endurance, but each step also brings a reminder of how far you’ve come, backpacking through the last true wilderness at the edge of the world.

Overnight in expedition campsites.

3
Laguna Guanaco
Day 6: Descent to Puerto Williams

Our final day on the trail begins with the climb to Paso Virginia, the highest point of the Dientes Circuit and one of its most breathtaking. From the top, the view opens over Laguna Guanaco, a vast glacial lake framed by rugged peaks and the distant shimmer of the Beagle Channel. The descent is steep and often sketchy, cutting through scree and loose rock before reaching the valley floor.

As we leave the high country behind, the landscape shifts once more: mossy forests, tangled castoreras, and the first signs of Puerto Williams appear on the horizon. By evening, we return to Errante Ecolodge, tired, muddy, and smiling. A traditional Patagonian asado awaits, the perfect way to celebrate the end of the journey at the edge of the world.

4
Day 7: Return home

After nearly two weeks of raw adventure at the edge of the world, it’s time to begin the journey back. From Puerto Williams, you’ll take the flight north to Punta Arenas, where connections home await. The expedition ends in Puerto Williams airport, but the memories of Yendegaia, the Dientes, and the bonds forged on the trail will travel with you long after leaving Tierra del Fuego.
