Itinerary

Day 1. Pick-up in Reykjavík & transfer to Landmannalaugar

Start of your adventure from our Amarok Adventures Basecamp, conveniently located at Reykjavík’s harbour. Here, you’ll meet your experienced guide who will lead you into the heart of Iceland’s wild Highlands. Together, you’ll go over the plan, gear up, and prepare for the journey ahead.

We’ll start the journey toward Landmannalaugar in our powerful super jeep, purpose-built to handle Iceland’s toughest winter terrain with an expert driver behind the wheel.

Day 2 & 3: Explore Landmannalaugar

2 full days in Landmannalaugar (4-day adventure).

As you strap on your snowshoes and step into the heart of Landmannalaugar, a whole new world unfolds, one buried under deep snow and sculpted by the raw power of winter. Every step is an adventure.

Led by your guide, you’ll navigate this wild terrain, learning to move through snow-covered valleys and read the land when visibility fades. When the weather turns fierce, there’s always something to learn, like practicing avalanche rescue techniques or exploring the geothermal wonders close to the hut.

And when the day’s done, the best reward awaits. Slip into the natural hot pools surrounded by snow, watch the steam rise into the cold air, and let the warmth of the earth soak away the chill of the day.

Day 4: Return to Reykjavík

After a final morning in the silence of the highlands, it’s time to begin the journey back to Reykjavík. We pack up the hut, say goodbye to the steaming valleys of Landmannalaugar, and load up the super jeep for one last ride through the snow-covered wilderness.

The return trip is an adventure in itself and depending on conditions, the route may shift and twist, adding to the sense of exploration that defines every moment out here.

By the time we reach Reykjavík, the contrast feels surreal: the city lights, the ocean breeze, the warmth of a café. But the highlands stay with you: the silence, the snow, and the feeling of being somewhere truly wild.

Amarok Adventures ehf will provide the traveler with instructions on how to proceed with the trip booking process. To confirm a booking, the following requirements must be met:

• The traveler must fill out the online form with their personal information through our website booking system & accept* the booking & cancellation policy.

• The traveler must make a payment of, 30% of the total tour cost through our website booking system or through a partner’s booking system. The remaining 70% balance of the total cost must be paid no later than 2 months prior to the trip start date.**

*If the client declines to accept the general and specific terms and conditions of the trip: Amarok Adventures ehf will be entitled to cancel the reservation at the client’s own risk and expense.**

** Bookings made within 2 months prior to the start date of the trip will require a 100% payment at the time of the booking.

• If canceled within 48 hours of booking: 100% of the total tour price is refundable (including the deposit).
• If cancelled before confirmation of the group: 100% of the total tour price is refundable (including the deposit).

• If cancelled 59 days or more prior to the departure date: 50% of the total tour price is refundable.
• If cancelled 30-58 days prior to the departure date: 25% of the total tour price is refundable.
• If cancelled 0-29 days prior to the departure date: 0% of the total tour price is refundable.

This multi-day tour can be changed free of charge up to 6 weeks before departure date if there is availability on a different date.

Please note that this winter adventure takes place in a remote highland environment with deep snow and unpredictable conditions. You’ll be snowshoeing across uneven terrain, so make sure to bring sturdy, waterproof boots, warm layered clothing, and outerwear built for snow and wind. And of course, don’t forget to pack plenty of energy, every day out here is a true winter adventure!

What level of physical fitness is required for this adventure?

What is the weather like in Iceland?

The weather conditions in Iceland, particularly in the Highlands region, are known for their unpredictability and rapid changes. It is essential to be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions that can occur within a single day, including strong wind gusts, hail, snowstorms and significant temperature variations.

Temperatures can range from 5ºC to – 20ºC (41ºF to -4ºF) during the trip. To fully enjoy and embrace this adventure, it is mandatory to have appropriate mountain clothing that can withstand these diverse weather elements. Equipping yourself with good-quality gear will ensure your comfort and safety throughout the journey, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience despite the challenging weather conditions.

Do I need to bring my own food & beverages?

No need, we’ve got you covered for most of the trip. All meals are included except breakfast on Day 1 (before departure from Reykjavík) and dinner on the final day (Day 3 or 4, depending on your tour duration).
During the adventure, we’ll provide hearty meals and hot drinks at the mountain hut to keep you warm and energized after long days in the snow. You’re welcome to bring your favorite snacks or extra treats if you’d like something specific for the trail, but it’s not required.

What happens if the tour gets canceled due to weather conditions?

Our first priority in any cancellation scenario is to try to reschedule your tour or provide a suitable alternative option. In the event that Amarok Adventures ehf is unable to do so, or in the event that the client cannot reschedule the tour that has been canceled, the client will receive a full refund.

To ensure that we can promptly communicate and potentially reschedule your tour, or in the worst case scenario cancel, please provide Amarok Adventures ehf with your up-to-date phone and/or email contact information.

How much luggage can I bring?

Space is very limited on this expedition, so packing light is essential. In the super jeep, there’s only room for one soft duffel bag (around 50 liters) and a small daypack. For those arriving by helicopter, space is even tighter, only compact, soft bags are allowed, and every extra kilo counts.

Minimalism is key. Bring only what you truly need for a few days in the highlands: warm layers, personal essentials, and your sense of adventure. We’ll provide all group equipment and food, so you can focus on traveling light and enjoying the ride.
